Liverpool name Dominik Szoboszlai as Virgil van Dijk's captaincy successor

Liverpool have already identified a replacement for Virgil van Dijk’s captaincy, selecting Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The club’s leadership hierarchy, outlined by manager Andoni Iraola, includes Joe Gomez, Alisson Becker and Szoboszlai, yet Szoboszlai’s extended contract and experience as Hungary’s captain give him a decisive advantage. Van Dijk, speaking after Liverpool’s win at St James’ Park, endorsed Szoboszlai, highlighting his leadership qualities.

While players such as Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch could be considered in the future, Szoboszlai is seen as the most logical heir. The appointment aims to preserve stability as several senior squad members enter the final year of their deals.
