Malaysia aims to create 30,000 youth jobs in 2027 under Bakat Madani plan

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a target of 30,000 new youth jobs for 2027, backed by the Bakat Madani programme and private-sector incentives.

During the Budget 2027 presentation in the Dewan Rakyat, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set a goal of 30,000 new employment opportunities for young Malaysians in 2027 under the Bakat Madani initiative. The plan hinges on RM8 billion earmarked for technical and vocational education, with tax breaks for private companies that adopt the training scheme from June 29 2026 through December 31 2030. HRD Corp, funded with RM3 billion, will offer three million skills-development programmes, and the Skills Development Fund Corp will contribute RM500 million to support trainees at public and private institutes.

The government also pledged training for ex-military personnel via partnerships with MIAT and the Malaysian Maritime Academy, placement of 1,000 Bumiputera youths by MARA, and wiring repairs in 20,000 low-income homes by GIATMARA trainees. Further initiatives target 10,000 youths in robotics and digital tech through CIDB and advanced automotive pathways via ADTEC, while MITRA’s budget rises to RM150 million to boost Indian-community talent in automation, technology and aircraft maintenance.

Why it matters

The plan seeks to boost youth employment and skills, addressing Malaysia's labour shortages and economic growth.
