Malaysia allocates RM490 million to MCBA for airport scanner upgrades
The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency will receive RM490 million in the 2027 budget, funding new body and baggage scanners at three major airports.
In the 2027 budget, the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency is set to receive RM490 million to enhance security screening at the country’s main airports. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim detailed that 48 new body and baggage scanners will be deployed across Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Penang International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport. These measures aim to reinforce national border security.
Additionally, the budget calls for mandatory drug and alcohol testing for pilots and flight crew. The Home Ministry will also obtain a larger allocation, with RM7.1 billion earmarked for procurement and maintenance of security assets. The funding reflects the government’s focus on modernising airport security infrastructure.
