Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received the first Sheikh Abu Bakar Foundation Excellence Award in India, recognizing his five-decade public service record.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was honored with the inaugural Sheikh Abu Bakar Foundation Excellence Award at the Jamia Markaz campus in India. Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad presented Anwar with a commemorative plaque and a copy of Sahih Bukhari, highlighting his more than fifty years of public service. Dr Roshan Nurani, rector of the Sheikh Abu Bakar Foundation, praised Anwar's perseverance, vision for institutions and dedication to education, economic development and human dignity.
The award ceremony coincided with Anwar's official visit to India, which follows his participation in the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi and seeks to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The foundation noted Anwar's role in preserving Islamic scholarly traditions beyond his political duties. Jamia Markaz also maintains academic links with several Malaysian universities.
