Malaysian squash star Ng Eain Yow clinches double Asian Games gold, secures 2028 Olympic spot

Ng Eain Yow won men’s singles and team gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, earning Malaysia a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Ng Eain Yow, Malaysia’s top squash player, secured men’s singles gold by beating India’s Abhay Singh in the final at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena, marking the first Olympic berth earned through the Asian Games. Five days later he contributed to Malaysia’s 2-0 triumph over Pakistan in the men’s team final, delivering his second gold of the tournament. The win brings his total Asian Games gold tally to four, including previous singles and team titles from Hangzhou 2022 and Jakarta-Palembang 2018.

Based in Bristol and coached by Hadrian Stiff, Yow said his game has returned to near-peak form after a year of inconsistency. He now aims to climb the world rankings, target a world No. 1 spot, and pursue Olympic gold in Los Angeles. Fellow Malaysian S Sivasangari also qualified for the Olympics by winning the women’s singles title.

Why it matters

Yow’s early Olympic qualification lets him focus on training, strengthening Malaysia’s chances in squash at the 2028 Games.
