Mayor Jan Wolf's group secures decisive victory in Karviná local elections

Incumbent mayor Jan Wolf led his Žijeme pro Karvinou movement to a strong win in Karviná's municipal elections, despite ongoing football corruption investigations.

Karviná's latest municipal elections saw incumbent mayor Jan Wolf reaffirm his leadership as his Žijeme pro Karvinou coalition achieved a commanding majority on the council. Compared with the previous election, where the party held just over half the seats, the new outcome gives the group control of nearly two thirds of the council chambers. Voters appeared to separate the local government's performance from the parallel football corruption scandal that continues to be investigated.

Other municipalities reported varied outcomes, with ANO winning in Opava and the Naše Město movement leading in Frýdek-Místek. The elections were part of the nationwide municipal and Senate polls held on October 9-10.

Why it matters

The result strengthens Wolf's mandate to govern Karviná while corruption probes continue, shaping local political dynamics.
