Prague voters decide composition of city council and 57 district assemblies
Prague residents are voting for 65 seats on the city council and for representatives in each of the 57 municipal districts.
In this year's Prague municipal election, citizens elect 65 councilors to the capital’s main governing body and simultaneously select representatives for the assemblies of all 57 city districts. Twenty-four electoral groups have fielded candidates, and voters may use all of their 65 votes for the council race. Vote tallies are posted in real time on a city map, with each precinct forwarding its totals to the Czech Statistical Office before they are reflected online.
The final count is expected to take until the early hours, and the newly elected council will later choose the next mayor, as the incumbent is not running. Coalition building among parties will be crucial for forming a governing majority.
Why it matters
The results will determine Prague's governing coalition and who will become the next mayor.
