Modi joins devotional music event at Delhi park on Deendayal Upadhyaya's birthday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a bhajan performance at Delhi's Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Park, marking the 110th birth anniversary of the Jana Sangh founder.

Delhi hosted a bhajan-style gathering at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Park to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seated in the front row as singers and musicians in saffron-hued costumes performed devotional numbers. Modi dressed in an orange waistcoat over a white kurta-pyjama and later highlighted Upadhyaya’s Antyodaya concept in a post on X, calling it a cornerstone of current policy and grassroots empowerment.

He urged citizens to internalise the thinker’s ideals and fulfill social and national duties. The event underscored the continued political reverence for Upadhyaya, a former RSS thinker and Jana Sangh president who died in 1968.

Why it matters

The ceremony shows how India's leadership links contemporary policies to historic nationalist ideas.
