Mureșan claims PSD-AUR alliance exploits violent farmer protest in Victory Square

European Parliamentarian Siegfried Mureșan criticised the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) for turning the farmer protest in Victory Square into a political tool after it turned violent. He described the incident as evidence of a growing anti-European alliance between the two parties, noting their previous cooperation in toppling the government and passing legislation together.

The demonstration degenerated when several protesters hurled stones and other objects at gendarmes, attempting to breach a security cordon near the government complex. Police responded with tear-gas, and the unrest spread toward Calea Victoriei. According to the Capital Gendarmerie, 26 aggressive participants were extracted for identification and legal action, and 24 individuals, including eight gendarmes, received medical treatment, with four requiring hospitalisation.
