Mureșan urges PSD and Grindeanu to back his proposed government

Designated prime minister Siegfried Mureșan issued a fresh request for the Social Democratic Party and its leader Sorin Grindeanu to endorse his proposed cabinet in the next parliamentary vote. He argued that the confidence vote offers the PSD an opportunity to show that its actions are free from foreign pressure, following a report that suggested U.S. involvement in the ousting of the previous Bolojan government. Grindeanu publicly rejected the accusations, stating there was no agreement with the United States.

The PSD leadership has already declared it will not back Mureșan’s government, and Grindeanu reaffirmed that stance. In his statement, Mureșan also described a foreign-policy agenda seeking close, equal partnerships with every EU member state, the United States and other liberal democracies to benefit Romania. The appeal underscores ongoing political tension over alleged external influence in Romanian governance.
