Nagoya floods spare Asian Games venues as athletes relocated; Malaysia watches flood risks

Record rain fell in Nagoya, flooding streets, homes and disrupting bus and subway services. About 400 athletes and support personnel staying in temporary housing were moved to higher ground for a short period, while a few venue roofs experienced leaks. The mayor said the venues remain functional and the schedule will not be altered.

Emergency shelters accommodated roughly 3,500 local residents affected by the flooding. Japan raised a level‑five emergency alert after the Shonai River overflow in Aichi and Gifu, and authorities urged residents to move to higher ground. Malaysia’s deputy chef de mission Azlan Iskandar said the team is maintaining communication with local organizers and will assess safety as the situation develops.
