Najib's house arrest SOPs await fine payment as Bukit Aman probes viral theatre video

The Prison Department is set to issue detailed standard operating procedures governing the house-arrest of convicted former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, covering visitor protocols, security measures and movement monitoring. Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar said the procedures can be implemented only after Najib pays the RM50 million fine ordered by the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registry. The conditional pardon granted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar limits its effect to the jail term stemming from the SRC International case, where Najib was found guilty of multiple counts of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering.

In a separate development, Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation of a viral video that appears to mock the five tenets of the Rukun Negara and contains allegedly racially charged remarks. Police chief Fadil Marsus noted the complaint was filed after the clip, posted on the Instagram account @THEFEVERKINETIC, was identified; the footage, believed to be from a 2018 Theatre for The Arts performance by the intercultural group The Fever Kinetic, was re-uploaded online during this year’s Malaysia Day events. Authorities are examining whether the content breaches Malaysia’s racial harmony laws.
