Unity government says relations stay strong after Najib's conditional pardon
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition partners continue to work together after the Pardons Board approved a conditional pardon for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
A conditional pardon for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was issued by the Federal Territories Pardons Board, permitting him to remain under house arrest until August 23, 2028 after a RM50 million fine is paid. The decision was endorsed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at a meeting held in Istana Negara. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, also UMNO president and BN chair, said the coalition parties in the unity government are preserving good relations and handling affairs professionally, with cabinet decisions made jointly.
He highlighted that the pardon is anchored in several clauses of the Federal Constitution, making it legally binding. Zahid warned that any dispute with the king’s ruling would breach constitutional provisions, reiterating UMNO and BN’s commitment to obey the law.
