New poll shows Philippe, Glucksmann and Mélenchon neck-and-neck behind Le Pen
A fresh Elabe poll finds former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, Raphaël Glucksmann and Jean-Luc Mélenchon tied for second place, while Marine Le Pen leads comfortably.
According to an Elabe poll released Saturday, Marine Le Pen remains the clear front-runner for the April presidential election, with about three-tenths of respondents supporting her in the first round. Former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, social-democratic candidate Raphaël Glucksmann and far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon are virtually tied, each drawing between roughly fifteen and sixteen percent of voter intention.
The study shows that if the second round pits Le Pen against any of these three, she would still prevail, though the gap would be smallest against Philippe or Glucksmann. The poll was carried out online between 14 and 16 October, using a quota-based sample of French adults. Its margin of error ranges from about one point to three points.
Why it matters
The poll highlights a tightly contested race for the French presidency, indicating potential shifts in voter alignment.
