Nine Melaka incumbents face possible replacement ahead of state election

At least nine current Melaka assembly members may be dropped as parties consider new candidates before the upcoming state election.

Ahead of the Melaka state election, party leaderships are poised to replace up to nine incumbent assembly members, reflecting a push for renewal and electoral advantage. Constituencies under review include Kuala Linggi, Rembia, Gadek, Sungai Udang, Pengkalan Batu, Kesidang, Bemban, Serkam and Sungai Rambai, where incumbents such as Rosli Abdullah, Muhamad Jailani Khamis and VP Shanmugam may be sidelined. Factors influencing the reshuffle range from individual performance and age to broader strategies for attracting multiracial support and consolidating coalition strength.

Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional are expected to announce their final line-ups between Oct 28 and Oct 31, with the Election Commission setting nomination day for Oct 31 and polling on Nov 14. The outcome of these selections could affect party fortunes in a tightly contested, multi-cornered race.
