Wawasan leader Hamzah says party will protect its Melaka seats

Wawasan Negara president Hamzah Zainudin announced the party intends to defend the state seats it won in the last Melaka election, mirroring UMNO’s stance.

At a press briefing in Jasin following Wawasan Negara’s supreme council session at the Heritage Hotel, president Hamzah Zainudin declared the party’s intention to defend the state constituencies it secured in the previous Melaka poll, arguing that UMNO should be afforded the same privilege. He pointed out that two former opposition assemblymen now sit as Wawasan representatives and that the party will not relinquish these seats without discussion.

Hamzah said Wawasan is willing to consider seat-exchange proposals with Barisan Nasional, provided they are mutually advantageous. He rejected speculation that Wawasan would limit its contest to the Paya Rumput constituency, stating the party will announce its full slate after the court’s decision on Oct 22. Secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah attended, and media reports have linked the Tangga Batu division’s Ramlan Meon to a potential candidacy in Paya Rumput, which could affect former PN legislators Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof and Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub.

Why it matters
