Norwegian Parliament to Hold Two-Day Hearing on Epstein-Related Funding and Former Ministers
The Storting will conduct a two-day hearing of current and former ministers over revelations about Jeffrey Epstein’s Norwegian contacts and large foreign-aid grants.
A two-day parliamentary inquiry starts on 30 September, with live streaming via the Storting’s website and VG. On the first day, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, former development ministers and other senior officials will be questioned, followed by former ministers on 1 October, including Anniken Huitfeldt and Espen Barth Eide. The committee will examine large funding allocations from the Foreign Ministry to the International Peace Institute and probe possible patronage networks.
The hearing also addresses how a 2019 tip about the institute’s link to Epstein was handled and broader aid-management reforms. Former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, under investigation for alleged corruption, was not invited, a decision attributed to concerns about interfering with Økokrim’s probe.
Why it matters
The inquiry could reveal how high-level officials managed foreign aid and possible conflicts of interest tied to the Epstein scandal.
