ODS retains Senate lead and negotiates coalitions as Brno chief steps down

ODS secured victories in seven Senate districts, keeping its top position, while its Brno leader Robert Kerndl resigned after the municipal elections.

In the latest Senate elections, ODS emerged victorious in seven districts, ensuring it remains the leading Senate faction together with TOP 09 and allowing Miloš Vystrčil to continue as Senate president. The party also managed to improve its standing after the municipal elections, though it fell short of the mayoralty in Prague, where STAN's Petr Hlaváček is poised to become mayor and is negotiating possible alliances with the Civic Democrats, Pirates and local groups.

In Ostrava, ANO and its partner Starostové pro Ostravu have formed a three-party coalition with the local Ostravak movement, while ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 stay in opposition. Meanwhile, in Brno, ODS chairman Robert Kerndl resigned from his regional leadership role, confirming that his successor will be chosen by a regional assembly in early November. The party highlighted successful results in cities such as Jihlava, Teplice, Znojmo, Litoměřice, Čelákovice, Klatovy and Kutná Hora.
