Olivia Breen clinches T38 long jump gold for Wales in Glasgow

At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Olivia Breen reclaimed the T38 long jump title, delivering a wind-legal 5.03 m effort in the second round that earned Wales its sixth gold medal of the meet. Her first-round leap of 5.09 m surpassed her own 2018 Games record but was disqualified because wind speed reached +3.9 m/s. Australian competitors Layla Sharp and 15-year-old Ayla Kowalczyk completed the podium, taking silver and bronze respectively, with Sharp setting a new area record of 5.06 m. Breen, the captain of Team Wales, had already added a silver medal in the T38 100 m earlier in the Games.

The triumph contributed to a successful day for Wales, which also saw Anna Morris and Emma Finucane win cycling titles at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Breen’s medal tally now includes three Commonwealth golds, one silver and one bronze across four Games.
