Opposition candidate celebrates victory, calls for responsible governance in Belgrade
Radomir Saičić, a winning candidate of the Student List, addressed supporters in Belgrade, urging the new parliament to act on promises of change.
Radomir Saičić, a chemistry professor at the University of Belgrade and a candidate of the opposition Student List, delivered a speech to jubilant supporters following the recent vote. He described the result as a victory of bravery over fear and of hope over apathy, emphasizing the belief that Serbia can be different. Saičić expressed gratitude to those who cast ballots and warned that the electoral success is not a personal accolade but a heavy responsibility for all members of the new parliamentary majority.
He called for the newly elected legislators to demonstrate they are worthy of the confidence placed in them and to start working the next day, after a night of singing, dancing and emotional celebration. Preliminary data cited by Aleksandar Vučić suggest the Student List could secure between 135 and 140 seats in the 250-member assembly, while the ruling Serbian Progressive Party may obtain around 105 seats. Minor parties representing national minorities are also expected to win a few seats.
Why it matters
The opposition's win could reshape Serbia's political direction and test the new parliament's ability to deliver promised reforms.
