Penang records unhealthy air quality at three monitoring sites
Three of Penang's four automatic air quality stations reported unhealthy API levels, while one site showed moderate conditions.
Today, three of Penang's four automatic air quality monitoring stations logged unhealthy Air Pollution Index values, according to State Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo. Seberang Prai recorded the highest reading at 155, followed closely by Minden at 154 and Seberang Jaya at 152. In contrast, the Balik Pulau station measured a moderate level of 92.
Sundarajoo advised children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with heart or respiratory issues to reduce prolonged outdoor exposure and seek medical help if symptoms persist. He also appealed for a halt to open burning and other activities that could worsen pollution. Ongoing monitoring will continue through the MyEQMS and APIMS systems in partnership with the Department of Environment.
Why it matters
Poor air quality poses health risks, especially for vulnerable populations, and requires public caution and pollution control measures.
