Pioneering Malaysian doctor and former prime minister's spouse Siti Hasmah dies at 100
Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, a trailblazing Malaysian physician and wife of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, died at age 100.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, aged 100, died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur. Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong posted a tribute highlighting her warmth, sense of humor and decades of service to women, children and families. Tributes poured in on social media from singers, actors and other public figures.
The Prime Minister’s Department arranged a state funeral with prayers held at As‑Syarif Mosque in Seri Kembangan, after which she was laid to rest in Pusara Negara, Precinct 20, Putrajaya, beside former First Lady Tun Endon, with ceremonial honors coordinated by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and the Chief of Defence Forces. Wan Azizah described the loss as a great blow to the nation.
