Police bust cross-border rice smuggling ring using cranes at Rantau Panjang
Kelantan police arrested members of a syndicate that used cranes to load smuggled Thai rice onto trailers at the Malaysia-Thailand border.
Authorities in Kelantan identified a rice-smuggling network operating along the Malaysia-Thailand frontier after a short TikTok clip went viral. The video, recorded near Jalan Kasban in Jeram Perdah, showed bags of rice from Thailand being hoisted by cranes onto transport trailers. Police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that officers have arrested those involved and that the case is considered resolved.
Sources estimate the gang moves between five and six trailer loads of rice daily, shipping the cargo by boat along the Golok riverbank before dispersing it to northern Malaysian states via Jalan Jeli. Following a crackdown, officials report no further smuggling incidents in the past two or three days.
