Polish court orders two-month detention for man accused of plotting bomb attack on top officials
A Warsaw court placed 66-year-old Krzysztof N. in two-month pre-trial detention after he was arrested on suspicion of planning a bomb attack against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and other senior officials.
A Warsaw-Mokotów district court granted the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office’s motion to impose a two-month temporary arrest on 66-year-old Krzysztof N., who was detained in Wrocław after the State Protection Service received a warning about a possible threat to Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The hearing lasted nearly nine hours, during which the suspect gave lengthy explanations, leading to two recesses.
A search of his apartment uncovered several makeshift explosive devices, including firecrackers loaded with metal balls that resembled shrapnel grenades. Prosecutors allege he was recruiting individuals sharing his radical views to form a group intent on overthrowing the Polish government by force, and he now faces nine charges, the gravest being preparation of violent overthrow of a constitutional organ, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Minister of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak condemned those who had dismissed the danger, and investigators will continue to assess the seized materials.
