Premier League clubs shatter transfer spending record as City and Chelsea lead the charge

Across the Premier League, clubs collectively broke the summer spending ceiling, reaching £3.49 billion as the transfer window closed on Tuesday. Manchester City, overseen by incoming coach Enzo Maresca, posted a record £458 million haul, bringing in players such as Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson, Iliman Ndiaye and Ayyoub Bouaddi after losing several key figures. Chelsea’s new boss Xabi Alonso spent £349 million, highlighted by a £117 million purchase of Morgan Rogers, making him the most expensive British talent.

Tottenham, eager to avoid another relegation scare, invested more than £300 million, with Sandro Tonali’s £100 million fee leading the way. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s attempts to sign a top forward fell through, and Liverpool’s £123 million acquisition of Bradley Barcola did little to allay doubts about their title chances, while Manchester United’s quieter window added a handful of midfielders but left defensive concerns unresolved.
