President Dan nominates Siegfried Mureșan as prime‑minister‑designate; coalition talks intensify

President Nicușor Dan named liberal MEP Siegfried Mureșan as his prime‑minister‑designate, giving him ten days to propose a cabinet and a governing programme to Parliament. Mureșan, who received the most supporting votes in recent party consultations, said he will seek a coalition with the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania. He has launched a drafting programme for a reform‑oriented, pro‑European cabinet and pledged to present its priorities next week. A joint press briefing with the leaders of the three parties is scheduled as the coalition talks proceed.
