President Nicușor Dan denies revenge motive behind Siegfried Mureșan premiership nomination

President Nicușor Dan refuted accusations that his selection of Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister was driven by personal vendetta, stating the nomination stemmed from a joint proposal by PNL, USR and UDMR after consultations with their leaders. He clarified that he did not need to call the PNL president directly because the proposal was already discussed with the heads of PNL, USR and UDMR on the same day. Dan emphasized that accepting a proposal cannot be an act of revenge and expressed confidence that Mureșan will persuade a parliamentary majority to approve his cabinet.

He highlighted the need for the new government to maintain Romania’s pro-Western course and fiscal policy, while avoiding a detailed critique of the previous administration. Dan noted the 10-day window for Mureșan to form a cabinet and seek a confidence vote, with PSD and AUR opposing the nomination, and mentioned alternative options such as a technocratic or rotating government if one outlet plan fails.
