Siegfried Mureșan named Romanian premier, vows to keep anti-corruption drive alive

President Nicușor Dan proposed Siegfried Mureșan for the role of prime minister after six hours of party consultations yielded the highest vote count for Mureșan. In a Facebook post, the newly designated premier declared he will keep the “light” on in the metaphorical pantry Ilie Bolojan described, insisting that the ongoing anti-privilege reforms will continue. He stressed that the upcoming measures are intended to reward law-abiding citizens and not to single out any individuals or groups.

Mureșan affirmed the commitment to finish the state-reorganization started under Bolojan’s tenure. To assume office, he must obtain a vote of confidence from the Romanian Parliament, requiring a majority of deputies and senators. The outcome will determine whether one outlet reform trajectory proceeds.
