President Nicușor Dan rules out early elections, urges parties to keep talks alive
In an Antena 3 interview, President Nicușor Dan said he does not want the Parliament dissolved and warned that snap elections would harm citizens.
During a televised interview, President Nicușor Dan responded to questions about the impasse surrounding Siegfried Mureșan’s inability to secure a parliamentary majority. He highlighted that one outlet coalition of PNL, USR and UDMR controls 170 votes, far short of the 233 needed for the designated premier. Dan said he is urging all parties to resume negotiations, noting that Mureșan has refused talks with AUR and missed a meeting with PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu.
The president stressed that dissolving Parliament would create months of uncertainty, which he believes citizens do not want. He therefore dismissed the prospect of snap elections, calling them harmful for both the electorate and political parties, and urged a swift resolution through dialogue.
