PSOE keeps former Cerdán allies at the top of several election lists
The Spanish Socialist Party has retained a group of longtime allies of ex-secretary Santos Cerdán in leading positions on its upcoming congressional and senatorial candidate lists.
Ahead of the 29-N general election, the PSOE chose not to overhaul its candidate rosters, instead keeping a core of politicians linked to former party secretary Santos Cerdán in prominent spots. Javier Alfonso Cendón leads the León list for the Congress, while Manuel Arribas heads the Ávila list, and Rafaela "Rafi" Crespín tops the Senate slate for Córdoba. In Jaén and Navarra, Juanfran Serrano and his wife Adriana Maldonado were demoted to second place, a move justified publicly by María Jesús Montero as a step toward gender parity.
Critics argue the reshuffle aims to limit discussion of Cerdán’s pending legal issues during the campaign. Nonetheless, most of Cerdán’s trusted allies remain at the forefront of the party’s electoral strategy, preserving their chances of securing public office.
