Romanian premier calls emergency meeting to boost school safety after recent attacks

Premier Luca Niculescu announced an urgent inter-ministerial meeting to draft an integrated plan aimed at improving security in Romanian schools following violent incidents in Bistrița and Ploiești.

In a televised address, Premier Luca Niculescu condemned the recent school violence in Bistrița and Ploiești as deeply troubling and affirmed that no child should fear attending class. He opened the cabinet meeting with condolences to the wounded pupil and teacher, assuring them of governmental assistance. Immediately after, he summoned the education, justice and other relevant ministries to craft an integrated safety plan for schools, outlining duties, prevention tactics, swift intervention protocols and harsher sanctions for violent acts.

The education minister, Sorin Costreie, suggested expanding school security staff and boosting psychological counseling, while Justice Minister Radu Marinescu said his ministry will prioritize reforming criminal law concerning attacks on minors and teachers. The prime minister emphasized that coordinated, proactive measures are needed rather than reactive responses after each incident.
