Russia thanks India for peace initiative as Moscow welcomes New Delhi's ceasefire proposal

The Kremlin expressed gratitude to India for its willingness to help end the Ukraine war, citing a new three-part peace plan.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov thanked India for its willingness to make a “feasible contribution” toward ending the Ukraine war, referring to a new three-part peace proposal from New Delhi. His remarks follow Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha’s comment that India’s ceasefire plan is the most comprehensive of four submissions, which also include offers from Turkey, Egypt and the United States. President Vladimir Putin, after the BRICS summit in New Delhi, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “good ideas” for a mutually acceptable solution and highlighted India’s neutral stance.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting meaningful peace efforts. Foreign minister S Jaishankar said New Delhi has moved beyond advocacy to active dialogue with both Kyiv and Moscow on issues such as Black Sea shipping safety, grain exports and energy supplies. The exchange underscores India’s emerging role as a potential mediator in the five-year-old conflict.
