Russian strikes repeatedly damage Kyiv's southern bridge and metro line

Russian forces hit Kyiv's southern Dnipro River bridge again, damaging the metro structure and halting both road and subway traffic.

Russian artillery struck Kyiv's southern bridge over the Dnipro River for at least the fourth time this October, injuring the metro infrastructure that runs on the span. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klytško reported that vehicle traffic on the bridge is now restricted and metro trains are not running across it. The city's military administration confirmed the road limits, while public transport operators have diverted two bus lines to the northern bridge.

The southern crossing, roughly 1.2 kilometres long, supports three traffic lanes each way and two one outlet tracks, making it a vital corridor for heavy freight and commuter traffic. Earlier strikes on the same bridge also damaged its structural elements, and the metro service was only restored after several days. Russian defence officials claim the bridge is being used for military logistics, and analysts say the repeated attacks aim to hamper civilian movement and undermine morale.

Why it matters

Disrupting Kyiv's main transport link hampers daily life and economic activity in Ukraine's capital.
