Selangor Islamic schools shut down as haze worsens, shift to home learning
All private Islamic schools overseen by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department are closed due to hazardous haze, with teachers working remotely and students moving to home-based lessons.
In response to severe haze, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has ordered the closure of all private Islamic schools under its jurisdiction, effective immediately. Director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad explained that teachers and support personnel will work from home while students shift to home-based teaching to maintain learning continuity. This action aligns with a recent Education Ministry announcement that also mandates school closures in four states, as well as in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Rompin district of Pahang.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek highlighted the worsening air quality as the reason for the nationwide precaution. The department asked parents and guardians to follow official communications for information on when schools will reopen. The closures aim to protect health while minimizing disruption to education.
Why it matters
The haze poses health risks, prompting school closures that affect thousands of students and require rapid shifts to remote learning.
