Shen launches first Taipei motorcade as Chiang calls for debate talks

DPP mayoral hopeful Puma Shen held his inaugural campaign motorcade in Taipei, while incumbent KMT mayor Chiang Wan-an urged both camps to meet on debate arrangements.

On Sunday, DPP candidate Puma Shen staged his first campaign motorcade through Taipei, starting in Datong District and drawing large crowds that followed on scooters with campaign signs. The convoy concluded at Dalongdong Baoan Temple, where Shen addressed reporters and emphasized his desire for four separate televised debates to allow thorough policy coverage. Earlier, Chiang Wan-an, the incumbent KMT mayor, had met Shen at a temple event in Wanhua District and was asked about the debate proposal.

Chiang replied that the priority should be to hold debates at all, noting that more debates do not guarantee electoral success. He said both parties have signed consent forms with broadcaster TVBS and will attend a coordination meeting on Monday to finalize details. The upcoming local elections on Nov. 28 will decide a range of municipal and regional offices across Taiwan.
