South Korea earns one silver and two bronze medals on opening day of Asian Games swimming

On the opening day of swimming at the Asian Games in Tokyo, South Korea secured a silver medal through Kim Young-beom and two bronze medals via Hwang Sun-woo in the men's 100m freestyle, trailing China's Pan Zhanle. The men's 100m backstroke saw Lee Ju-ho claim his third straight bronze as China's Xu Jiayu won gold and Japan's Hidekazu Takehara took silver. South Korean swimmers also recorded four fourth-place finishes: Kim Yun-hui in the women's 200m butterfly, Kim Min-suk in the men's 200m individual medley, Kim Chae-yun in the women's 1,500m, and the women's 4x100m freestyle relay team. Overall, South Korea has amassed 22 medals at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, including six golds, and will aim to defend titles in the men's 50m freestyle and the men's 4x200m freestyle relay the following day.
