State exco vacancy in Negeri Sembilan raises concerns over development and investment
Negeri Sembilan has been without an executive council since September 20 after the Yang Dipertuan Besar cancelled ten appointments, prompting worries about stalled projects and investment approvals.
In the House of Representatives, MP Jalaluddin responded to concerns that the absence of a new executive council in Negeri Sembilan could hinder the state's development, promising a solution without specifying a date. The stalemate began on 20 September when Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir withdrew the appointments of ten exco members after they endorsed a declaration to oust him. Former Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, now PKR state chief, said the vacuum disrupts investment and business approvals, leaving the administration unable to function normally for nearly two months.
Jalaluddin cited the state's RM58 billion economic output and urged Putrajaya to back an economic corridor with adequate transport, utilities, logistics and skilled workers. He also suggested that Perkeso extend contributions to industrial trainees, referencing a fatal road accident involving a student intern whose family could not claim compensation because he was not a Perkeso contributor.
Why it matters
The prolonged lack of an executive council threatens Negeri Sembilan's economic projects and investment climate.
