Supporters rally outside Central Prison demanding release of Călin Georgescu

Hundreds gathered in front of Central Prison on Sunday, chanting slogans and calling for the freedom of former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, with journalist Robert Turcescu among them.

On Sunday, a sizable group of supporters gathered at Central Prison to voice opposition to the arrest of former presidential hopeful Călin Georgescu, who is under investigation for alleged fraud. The demonstrators repeatedly chanted slogans demanding his release and denouncing what they described as political persecution. Among the protesters was journalist Robert Turcescu, who publicly called for Georgescu’s freedom.

The crowd also urged continued solidarity, asking attendees to appear again the next day in front of the Bucharest Tribunal when judges will consider extending his preventive detention. Earlier, the Bucharest Court of Appeal had annulled a prior decision to move Georgescu to house arrest, but the matter remains unresolved. The protest reflects ongoing public tension over the case and its perceived political implications.
