Sydney mother charged with murder of 5-year-old son and attempted murder of two siblings in Blue Mountains incident

Police charged a 42-year-old mother from Sydney with the murder of her five-year-old son and attempted murder of his 1- and 3-year-old siblings following a stabbing attack that occurred inside a vehicle near Springwood in the Blue Mountains on Sunday. The mother, who also suffered self-inflicted stab wounds, was discovered after passing cyclists administered emergency aid to the two surviving children, who were later rushed to Westmead Hospital in critical condition.

She appeared before Penrith Local Court via video link from her hospital bed, where she remains under police guard, and was refused bail. The indictment includes one count of murder and two counts of intending to murder and causing grievous bodily harm. Her next court date is set for November 20.
