Takiyuddin disputes Azmin's interpretation of court order on PN suspension

Takiyuddin said the High Court's order only pauses the enforcement of the JPPM suspension, not the status of the PN coalition, contrary to Azmin's view.

Takiyuddin wrote to Azmin Ali to clarify that the High Court's judgment does not reinstate the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition's registration, but only suspends the enforcement of the JPPM's suspension order while the appeal is resolved. He emphasized that, under Rule 13 of the 1994 Court of Appeal Rules, an appeal does not act as a stay of the original decision unless expressly ordered by the court. Takiyuddin contested Azmin's assertion that the appeal filing automatically preserves the status quo, and said the appeal by JPPM and the Home Minister does not affect PN's standing.

He also stated that Bersatu members remain welcome to attend the PN Supreme Council meeting and vote, and that any decision to abstain will be recorded as the party's choice. Additionally, Takiyuddin challenged Azmin's claim that a JPPM letter confirmed Bersatu's status as a PN component, requesting the document and related complaint files. The JPPM had suspended PN on 23 September and cancelled its registration two days later, with the High Court pausing the cancellation.

Why it matters

The dispute determines whether PN can continue operating as a registered coalition amid legal challenges.
