Marcus Rashford, confirmed by Manchester United’s Michael Carrick to have a recurring hip problem, was substituted during United’s 1-1 draw with Fulham, putting his availability in doubt. Kobbie Mainoo, who travelled to the World Cup but did not play, also left the Fulham match early and faces the same uncertainty.

England’s three-week international break begins with a Nations League tie against Spain at Wembley, followed by games versus the Czech Republic and Croatia. Palmer has been in strong form this season, contributing four goals and two assists, while Chelsea will have three weeks to manage his condition before their next Premier League match on 10 October.
