Tusk pushes Domański’s deputy premiership as Pełczyńska-Nałęcz quits ministry

Prime Minister Donald Tusk sent a nomination request to President Karol Nawrocki for Andrzej Domański as deputy prime minister, and minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz announced her resignation from the ministry of funds and regional policy.

Donald Tusk announced that he had formally submitted a request to President Karol Nawrocki to elevate Finance Minister Andrzej Domański to the post of deputy prime minister. The Sejm later voted on a PiS-initiated motion of no confidence against Domański; 234 deputies voted against the motion, 204 supported it, falling short of the 231 votes required to remove him. On Thursday, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, minister of funds and regional policy and leader of Polska 2050, posted on X that she was stepping down from both roles, a move linked to a split over a vote to abolish two-term limits in local authorities.

Tusk said he already has two women under consideration for her successor and will reveal their names after his visits to India and Vietnam. According to a source close to the president, Nawrocki does not intend to block Domański’s appointment, provided both sides negotiate, and he will travel to Senegal later this week, noting he cannot meet Tusk every two days given the government’s challenges.

Why it matters

The moves reshape Poland’s cabinet and signal how the ruling coalition manages internal disputes.
