U.S. Ambassador to Greece Accused of Using Greek Billionaires to Fund Luxury Trips

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, allegedly bragged about Greek magnates paying for her private-jet travel and sought favors at a Davos-linked dinner.

Audio evidence shows ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle boasting in January about close ties to two wealthy Greek businessmen who financed her extravagant travel, including private-jet flights to the World Economic Forum in Davos and a fashion event in Paris. She allegedly pressured an American donor to help her gain entry to a dinner hosted by Greek House Davos, eventually obtaining a last-minute invitation. The recordings capture her promising large financial gains to the Greek contacts and describing one as “one of mine.”

The trips were reportedly paid for by Alexandros Exarchou of Aktor Group and Nikolas Tsakos of Tsakos Energy Navigation, who also settled her Four Seasons hotel bill in Paris. While the U.S. Embassy in Athens defended her record, senior Trump officials are debating her possible dismissal, and the State Department’s inspector general has opened a probe into potential gifts or favors. Congressional Democrats have called for an immediate investigation into possible violations of federal anti-corruption statutes.

Why it matters

The allegations raise concerns about diplomatic ethics and possible foreign influence on U.S. officials.
