Ukrainian strikes plunge Crimea into darkness and spark multiple industrial attacks
Ukrainian night raids knocked out power and internet in Crimea after hitting a transformer, while several facilities in southern Russia were also targeted.
A nighttime assault by Ukrainian forces disabled a transformer station in Crimea, causing widespread blackouts and confirmed internet outages, according to Netblocks. The attacks also reportedly struck a petrochemical plant in Samara, an airfield in Krasnodar and a large electronics factory in Orjol. In occupied Kharkiv, a Russian-installed governor said three people were killed. Moscow's defence ministry claimed its air defenses shot down more than 600 Ukrainian drones, including about 80 over Rostov.
Why it matters
The strikes disrupt Russian energy and communications networks and show Ukraine's expanding capability to hit targets deep inside Russian-controlled areas.
