Vice President Sara Duterte says she will stay in office amid impeachment

The palace said Sara Duterte's choice to remain Vice President will not be interfered with, while dismissing her demand that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. resign.

In a press briefing, Malacañang officials affirmed that Vice President Sara Duterte's intention to stay in office will be respected, despite her ongoing impeachment trial. Undersecretary Claire Castro labeled Duterte's request for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to resign as "ridiculous" and without merit. Castro asserted that the President is working for the country's and people's welfare and is not involved in any clandestine agreements with foreign parties.

She further stated that no one will interfere with Duterte's personal decision not to resign. However, she described the Vice President's call for the President's resignation as a major folly. The remarks came after Duterte publicly declared she will never leave the vice presidency.
