President Xi is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on Saturday for the 18th BRICS summit, marking his first trip to India since 2019. In a media briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China will cooperate with India under the strategic guidance of both leaders, handle bilateral issues from a high-level, long-term perspective, boost communication and treat each other as friendly neighbours.
The remarks followed extensive talks in Beijing between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the boundary issue, culminating in an eight-point consensus on border management in late August. Hosted by India on September 12-13, the summit takes place amid the Iran-US conflict and the Ukraine-Russia war, with China offering to help BRICS members resolve disputes through dialogue. Xi's visit is seen as a significant step toward normalising ties after the 2020 Eastern Ladakh standoff.
