Zurich University Hospital admits suspected Ebola patient to high-security isolation unit
The University Hospital Zurich (USZ) has placed a person suspected of having Ebola in its dedicated high-containment ward.
The University Hospital Zurich announced that it is currently treating a suspected Ebola case on its specialized high-containment isolation ward, one of only two such centres in Switzerland. The hospital said the unit meets all safety requirements for managing highly infectious illnesses and that personnel assigned to the case are specially trained. Employees not involved in the care of the patient will continue their normal duties without alteration.
USZ emphasized that there is no risk to other patients or visitors. Together with the Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève, the hospital provides national capacity for Ebola treatment on behalf of the federal and cantonal authorities.
Why it matters
It shows Switzerland's readiness to isolate and treat rare, high-risk infectious diseases and reassures the public about safety measures.
