Amanah Deputy Urges Government to Resist UMNO Push for Snap Election

During a briefing for the Royal Commission on the Hajj Fund Board, Amanah’s Deputy President Mujahid Yusof Rawa emphasized that the coalition’s administration remains in power until the end of 2027, a period needed to complete its core initiatives. He dismissed UMNO’s request for an early general election, stating the government is not prepared to abandon its agenda for such pressure. At UMNO’s Grand Assembly, President Zahid Hamidi challenged critics to formally remove the party from the government, yet later, in a press conference, he reiterated UMNO’s pledge to stay allied until the term’s conclusion.

The coalition’s term is set to finish in December 2027, with a mandatory election by February 2028 unless Parliament is dissolved sooner. Mujahid added that the 2022 partnership was based on mutual agreement and that any party wishing to exit would be welcomed. He also noted that Prime Minister Anwar does not plan to expel any coalition member, though he will not prevent a voluntary departure.
