Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia-Tamil Nadu summit still possible despite schedule clash

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told Thanthi TV that talks to arrange a bilateral meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay are still on the agenda and could take place in Putrajaya or Chennai. He dismissed rumors that Chennai had refused the visit, noting that the chief minister’s office is trying to accommodate a very limited slot between Anwar’s scheduled stops in New Delhi, Kerala and the Maldives.

Because of these prior commitments, Anwar will proceed to Kerala and the Maldives and postpone the Tamil Nadu leg. During the interview, Anwar lauded Vijay’s early momentum, youth support and reform drive, while urging him to sustain good governance through patience and principle. He also shared his book with Vijay, highlighting the chief minister’s willingness to learn. Anwar stressed the cultural significance of Tamil Nadu and its potential to deepen Malaysia-India people-to-people ties, especially among the Tamil diaspora.
