AUR demands snap elections, blames President Nicușor Dan for democratic deadlock

AUR left the Cotroceni talks urging early elections and accusing President Nicușor Dan of derailing democracy.

AUR’s delegation, headed by first vice-president Dan Dungaciu and joined by Gianina Șerban, Laurențiu Plăeșu, Mihai Enache and Petrișor Peiu, met with President Nicușor Dan at Cotroceni Palace. The party reaffirmed its opposition to participating in the formation of a new cabinet and demanded that the president consider calling early elections. AUR members argued that Dan’s inflexibility and attempts to dictate who may govern breach democratic principles.

They accused him of amplifying violent rhetoric and of launching an unjustified attack on the party from the start of his term. The delegation said no constructive dialogue was possible and maintained that snap elections are the only solution to one outlet political stalemate. George Simion did not attend the meeting.

The standoff highlights a deepening political crisis and could trigger early elections in Romania.
